Adventure awaits! Western NC and North GA abound with opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Set your sights on long-range views with visits to Bell Mountain in Hiawassee (20-minute drive) and Brasstown Bald (highest point in GA, 35-minute drive). Spend the day on Lake Chatuge with a boat or personal watercraft rental from a local marina or launch your own from nearby public access. Want to immerse yourself in nature in the Nantahala National Forest? Bring your mountain bikes and ride the first-class trails at Jackrabbit Mountain (also great for hiking and dog-friendly) less than 5 minutes from the property. Fires Creek Recreation Area (25-minute drive) is another Western NC local favorite for hiking with picturesque views, swimming, and trout fishing. On the GA side, take a 30-minute drive to a waterfall hike via the High Shoals Falls Trail or make the 45-minute drive to Alpine Helen, GA for a taste of Bavaria in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hungry and thirsty after a day of exploration? Visit the outstanding local restaurants, wineries, and breweries in and around downtown Hayesville and Hiawassee for not-to-be-missed tastes of local flavor.
We love the #lakelife around here as well as the majestic mountains. So much to do and see right in town. We have a handy Welcome Book in the house full of dining options, things to do, shopping, hiking and waterfall trails. Wineries with live music events and tastings are plentiful. And a short 25 min drive to Helen for tubing or zip lining.
There are several excellent boat rental places in the area! We use Lake Chatuge Marine, Young Harris Water Sports, Boundary Waters... The fellas will help you out! All kinds of water toys too like jet skis, stand up paddle boards and kayaks.
Hike or drive to the apex of Bell Mountain, which overlooks Lake Chatuge below and provides picturesque mountain views. Shooting Creek Overlook is breathtaking. Visit Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia. Jackrabbit Mountain and Chatuge Dam. Both Towns County (Hiawassee GA) and Clay County (Hayesville NC) have super parks and beaches. Trailheads of the Appalachian Trail, which spans from Georgia to Maine, are less than 10 miles from this home.

Outdoor furniture, balconies, grill, etc

Grill is propane and there is a back-up tank on the porch. Please use red stick lighters located in drawer next to stove in the kitchen to light.
Dock
Water is too low for boats to park at dock from mid-Sept- mid-May. Kayaks and SUP's can be used year- round and can be rented at the local marinas. Feel free to use the dock and any of our toys left on the dock. Our pontoon boat will be docked on the side of our dock out of the way. Use of the boat is not part of the rental agreement. Use of the dock with a rental boat is welcomed. Please be aware of the depth of water (from 7 ft to 4 ft in summer).
Septic System 101:
Never pour grease down the drain. Pour grease into a container and dispose of it as solid waste.
Scrape food waste into the garbage, not down the drain. Nothing that doesn’t come out of a human goes into the toilet, except toilet paper. Place baby wipes in the garbage.
Avoid long showers.
Washing Machine: Washing more than one full load daily — or perhaps two if the loads are spaced by about 12 hours — is the limit for the drain field.
Cleaning Needs: No Bleach! Anything labeled “antiseptic” is out — these products kill the “good” bacteria necessary for the septic to function.
The tenant is responsible for plumbing repairs if they flushed items such as sanitary napkins or diapers down the toilet.
The rental agreement is ONLY for the stated amount of people in the AirBnB agreement. The septic system can/will not handle a large volume of people and will overflow if too many people use it.
